Oceanography

Oceanography as the name suggests the understanding and study of the seas or oceans of the world; it deals with the coastline, costal water, estuaries, shelves and the bed of an ocean.

A BSc degree in pure science is necessary to pursue a Masters degree in Oceanography. For the first year of the Master Degree all the students will have to study all the branches of Oceanography and specialize in one of them.

Some of the branches are:

1) Chemical Oceanography

2) Physical Oceanography

3) Biological Oceanography

4) Geological Oceanography

5) Marine Policy

6) Ocean Engineering

Research is the main work area after acquiring a Master Degree in Oceanography.

After acquiring a Master Degree one can seek job in fisheries, petroleum Industry, Shipping Industry or can work as a professor in University or college.

In a government body the salary at the entry-level ranges from Rs6500-8000 a month. The amount may be more in the Private Sector.
